The Esmeralia Republic is a presidential spacer republic in L5, comprising the space habitat of Esmeralia, which was formed in the aftermath of the Spacer Crisis immediately preceding the Solar War. Bearing the prestigious title of mankind's oldest space habitat, Esmeralia was a center of ideological development of Spacer consciousness prior to the Solar War, boasting prior to its outbreak perhaps the most sophisticated and popular spacer nationalist movement of any habitat outside the founding states of the Compact. The Popular Spacer Movement, the armed wing of the underground Greater Future Party was responsible for the Esmeralia Revolt in the beginning of R.C. 0120, which won Esmeralia's independence at the cost of thousands of accidental civilian deaths and injuries. Since achieving independence, Esmeralia's new government has primarily concerned itself with militarizing society to maximally support the Compact's war efforts - with the assistance of its highly developed manufacturing industry - and implementing its pro-labour ideological agenda. Civil liberties have been curtailed to suppress pro-CCN dissent within Esmeralia, with the promise that they will be restored after the war's conclusion, a promise many distrust.
History
Esmeralia was the first space habitat to be constructed by mankind, being inaugurated at the beginning of the Rational Calendar. It would temporarily be the administrative capital of the Coalition's L5 Development Administration before it was relocated to Centella in 0035 R.C. Its population grew rapidly initially, as large groups of refugees from irradiated regions of Esmaria and Eurysia were given new homes in space; the habitat would later see demographic stabilization as the colonies were expanded to accommodate demand and prevent overcrowding. Being the oldest habitat, Esmeralia would receive significant financial investments which allowed it to develop a strong and prosperous economy. Esmeralia would also become, alongside Grensland, an early center of ideological development for spacer nationalism. Its history would remain otherwise unremarkable up to the start of the Colony War.
In the Colony War, Esmeralia, like other Coalition habitats in L5 would be placed under serious threat from Asterian forces, especially in the early stages of the war. The Union State would choose to attempt an invasion in the Battle of Esmeralia in R.C. 0111 as part of the larger Battle of L5. The attempted incursion resulted in a decisive Coalition victory, although it had to achieve this victory by diverting forces away from other habitats in L5 such as Vryheid. Esmeralia would not be placed under threat for the remainder of the war.
Following the Colony War, however, Esmeralia would be destabilized by the advent of Sterregemeenskap in Grensland, which provided encouragement and inspiration to an already relatively well-organized spacer nationalist underground in Esmeralia. Foremost among these would be the Greater Future Party, an extremist party which took some inspiration from the Hartke faction of the Emerald Alliance's Renewalists, and worked towards the full independence of Esmeralia, chauvinistically portraying it as a spacer homeland. They ardently opposed megacorporations and the Coalition, viewing the former as parasites who weakened society, and the latter as the oppressors of spacers. With hardliners in firm control of its leadership, the Greater Future Party would begin staging riots and provocations against the L5 Development Administration and CFA after Grensland's secession from the Coalition in R.C. 0117.
Operation Boswilger in R.C. 0119 would convince the Greater Future Party, and its leader Daniel Egan-Therives, that the time to revolt and secure Esmeralia's independence had presented itself. While preparing to stage an uprising amidst continuing pro-spacer riots, however, the preparations were discovered by the CFA and most of the party's leadership was forced to hurriedly flee to Grensland. There they would establish a shadow government, and then stage a second attempt. This attempt, which became the Esmeralia Revolt was ultimately successful, but was the spark for the Solar War which would engulf humanity. The Greater Future Party would quickly assume control of Esmeralia after the CFA's retreat from the habitat, and wasted no time in establishing a new regime which, while not as conservative as its spacer peers, was just as committed to spacer nationalism as any of them.
The assassination of Grenslander president F.A. Vlok in Esmeralia while giving a speech in February of R.C. 0120, however, was a severe shock to the whole habitat, particularly as Egan-Therives had only narrowly escaped death as well. Seeing that Coalition supporters were still active in Esmeralia - and also militant compared to in other Compact states - Egan-Therives responded with a widespread purge of both real and suspected dissidents in Esmeralia. While some were punished through the judicial system, beatings, torture and executions were sporadically handed out to others extrajudicially when disloyalty could not be proven. The March Crackdown as it was termed in Esmaralia was unpopular, or at least distasted, among large segments of the population, but was not meaningfully opposed.
Heading into the middle of the year, Egan-Therives would formally suspend many civil rights and freedoms previously accorded if not in deed then in name to the people, and began mobilizing the Esmeralian economy to build a military force. Esmeralia was initially partially reliant on Grensland for protection, owing to the loyalty of much of its security force to the Coalition, but quickly set about creating its own military. Inspired by both the Compact and Plateian powers, such as Quisquella and its famed Internacionalistas, the nascent Esmeralian military would be divided into two branches: the defensive Esmeralian Defense Forces, meant to protect Esmeralia, and the offensive Esmeralian Expeditionary Corps, intended to support the Compact war effort and provide valuable military experience to the country.

| ⭐ Esmeralia | The sole, eponymous space colony of the Esmeralia Republic. Since its independence, Esmeralia's strong industry, previously subsidized and invested in by the Coalition government, has been retooled to support the Compact's military-industrial sector and war effort, with its government beginning a planned transition to a command economy. Recent immigration to the colony from the rest of L5 has resulted in Esmeralia developing rapidly growing urbanized areas. |
